The number of fine needle aspiration and small tissue biopsies of pancreas/gastrointestinal lesions have greatly increased over the last several years with the introduction of endoscopic ultrasonography (EUS). Many of the lesions sampled are soft tissue tumors that arise throughout the pancreas/GI tract. Diagnosis of these lesions is often challenging when a limited amount of cytologic and histologic material is obtained with this technique.
